The Mama Sherpas began filming in summer, 2012.  As the filming progresses, we will update you on the mamas, families, midwives and doctors who we are following in the documentary.

Emily, Mother of Henry, Pregnant with Second Child

Emily is a patient at Physician and Midwife and we began following Emily in December.  She studied hypnobirthing with a midwife and had an unmedicated birth with her first son, Henry, who is almost2.  She plans to use hypnobirthing again to manage her pain during her labor with her second child.  She and her husband, Charlie, have decided to be surprised by the sex of their second child.  Will they have a girl or boy?  Follow us on Facebook, Twitter and our web page and find out!

 

Laura, Mother to Riley and Maddox

Another patient at Physician and Midwife, we followed Laura in summer 2012 as she prepared to give birth to Maddox in early September.  Laura had a high risk pregnancy and her care was managed by both doctors and midwives.  She had a midwife-supervised induction in early September and gave birth to a healthy, baby boy.

Patrice, Midwife at Physicians and Midwife in Alexandria

Patrice is one of the midwives that we are following in the documentary.  She is a Certified Nurse Midwife and received her Masters in Science and midwifery education at the University of Minnesota in 1983. She is originally from San Antonio Texas and speaks Spanish. She is married to Mark and had a son in 1988 at home in San Francisco, CA. She is also an artist creating everything from paper mâché bowls to paper, fabric and clay jewelry.  She became a midwife after seeing a midwife deliver a baby in Boston. She fell in love with the midwife’s ability to empower the birthing woman, when she had lost all hope. “We need more of this on this planet!”
